Logo Design and Logo Contest Management

Crowdsourcing is a Great Way to Get a Great Logo. Let a Professional Design Agency Run Your Logo Contest!

There really is a new paradigm in brand identity design and it is about getting the broadest spectrum of design ideas for a great cost. The idea of “crowdsourcing” is fueling the new paradigm and it is radically affecting how clients engage design. With design crowdsourcing, when managed properly, you will get an exceptional breadth of usable work. It is through this process that outstanding ideas are generated and perfected. We at YBR Design have managed this process successfully for many other clients and would be privileged to manage the process for your company.

Distraught Contest Holder

Don't Let This Be You!

Do Not Run Your Own Contest until you have read the “8 reasons why you do not want to manage your own design contest!”

1There are over a thousand logo contests going on at the same time as yours throughout many of the various logo contest websites. Breaking through contest clutter to get the top designers is no easy task! YBR Design has managed many contests, we’ve worked with and know many of the top designers and will direct them to your contest.  YBR Design knows how to achieve great brand identity results. 2We know you are not trained in design and yet, the designers need you to write to them and explain exactly what you expect for your logo. This is really challenging and since you’ve never written a design brief or directed creative talent , you may not know how to tell them what you want! Convinced? Get a quote. Not convinced? Read on.

3Even though you are not trained in design, if you decide to run your own contest,  you will need to review, grade and respond to each of the designers for every one of their submissions. This takes a long time and requires a keen design eye to seek out the idea that may be the seed for your new brand identity.  The designers will know if you are tentative..they’ll know if you do not know what you are doing! 4In crowdsourced contests, the designers live all over the globe and speak many languages. Often times, they use Google translate to understand what you have written. Your communications must be exceptionally clear and concise in order to direct the contest successfully. YBR Design has managed many contests and knows how to achieve great results. Convinced? Get a quote. Not convinced? Read on.

5Since you are not trained in design and haven’t managed creatives, you don’t understand that designers are true creative talent and are easily offended. If you grade them too harshly, don’t respond, allow some other designer to steal their idea, make too sharp of a remark or if they simply feel that you are not being fair to them, they’ll pull their designs and leave your contest. There is an art to managing these talented folks. YBR Design knows how to manage the designers and have managed many contests with great results. Convinced? Get a quote. Not convinced? Read on.

6If you make the mistake of running your own contest, when you receive the final winning files, you will need to check them to make sure you have everything you need for your new brand identity. To do it correctly, you’ll need to have Adobe Creative Suite (around $2,000 for the software) or pay a local designer to check the work (extra cost). If you don’t have the software, or don’t know how to use it, you may receive materials from the winning designer that is not reproducible. That would be a much bigger issue! Hiring YBR Design to manage your contest eliminates this problem. Convinced? Get a quote. Not convinced? Read on.

7You are not trained in design. Let YBR Design handle your new logo project and you’ll get professional results without all of the headaches. Convinced? Get a quote. Still not convinced?

Thanks for visiting our logo contest management page. If you’ve been shopping for brand identity support, you may already know that the costs to produce a new logo at a leading, large design firm typically runs from $25,000 to over $250,000. In our blog, we often write about the absurd antics of big design, their outlandish expense and heavy tactics but recently, we have written about the other end of the design spectrum; the local freelance designer. Significantly less expensive that the “big” guys, these local designers try to fill a niche of being all things to all people. The problem is, when one hires a small freelance designer to do a brand identity project you can only get a few designs to review. Why is that so? Well, very simply, each person has a limited imagination, limited design style and frankly, a limited amount of time to get the design work done.

It’s precisely this inability of small design companies to create wide offerings of creativity that has historically led companies to step up their budgets and deal with “big” design companies. The old design paradigm, after all is, “if you want a lot you have to pay a lot.” Sadly, many large companies have the money to spend and have invested heavily in the old paradigm. Top management hopes that by paying a lot, they’ll get a great result. That simply was not the case for some recent big budget, disaster projects created by some of the largest design companies going. You may have read about the Tropicana orange juice design disaster last year and the more recent GAP Store logo redesign. These are but two examples of how, even with giant budgets, the outcome was not predictable.

Logo Contest Management

1It’s Inexpensive – Let’s face it, you are not trained in design and yet, developing your brand identity is serious business. Your company is going to live with your new logo for a long time; saving a few bucks shouldn’t be your main objective.  The last thing you want is a bad, cheap logo that is plastered all over your collateral and having to replace it in a year or two. All of that time to build your brand and money for a bad logo and the wasted materials will be a lot more expense than doing it correctly now.

Look at it like this; if you hired any of the the top design firms like Landor, Chase Design, LPK, Arnell or any of the other big agencies, you might pay at least $25,000 (and probably a lot more) for your new logo! Of course, in addition to a really big invoice, you’ll get a great story from a guy in a dark suit with a red tie who will tell you about how important it is to pay his company a lot of money in order to get a great design. Remember, the big design companies have a vested interest in you and your company agreeing to their old design paradigm; “You Have to Pay A Lot to Get Great Design.”

Or you could try small, local designers? Even local design shops will hit you up for thousands of dollars and you’ll only get a handful of design options. Why is that so? Well, very simply, each person has a limited imagination, limited design style and frankly, a limited amount of time to get the design work done.

YBR Design knows how critical it is for you to get great design; we just know you’ll feel better if you get it for a low cost! We put that concept into a little decision quadrant (see above) and we think you’ll agree that it’s a lot smarter to get high quality design for a low cost!  For a small fraction of the big design firms, YBR Design will professionally design and manage your global crowdsourced design contest and get you a huge number of viable logo options from many, many talented designers…the result: you will get a great logo that would have cost you an arm and a leg somewhere else.
